My dear friend and fellow lover of life Mr. Aaron Glass from San Francisco asked me to create the cover for his debut album. I can’t say enough good things about Aaron. His positive attitude and overwhelming love for his fellow man permeates throughout his life and music. Anyone who has a chance to meet him instantly feels this radient energy and shares in his love. We talked about the meaning behind the album, and more importantly the “vibe”. Here is the painting I subsequently created for him.

For my 26th birthday this year I wanted to make some art inspired by the loss and devastation caused by tsunami in Japan. I wanted to use found or recycled materials and I wanted to use a limited palette. All else was fair game. The devastation in Japan is real and serious and every little bit helps, if you would like to donate you can through the Red Cross.

Downtime

August is slow. No way around it. Everyone is on vacation for the end of summer. It’s hot as hell and staying out of water for a few weeks is almost unthinkable. Luckily I have half of September booked already.

So I’ve made the best of this bit of downtime to work on some new paintings, new projects, and finishing up a few old ones. Here’s a preview of one of the new paintings I’ve been working on.

Dead oil

I have used acrylic paint as far back as I can remember. For some reason I just never used oils. Until today of course. Last night I got a wild hair and stayed up until 4:30am drawing a new painting.

I set up my desk, poored my paints and a few hours later I made this. I know it’s nothing special as far as paintings go, but now that I’ve tried I don’t think I want to stop.

First Light Painting Session

I have spent a few late nights painting this new piece recorded my session last night to give you an idea of what’s gone into the painting so far. I’d estimate that so far it has been about 20 or so hours of work. I’m still not finished, but will post pictures as soon as I am.
