Fire Agates are amazing one of a kind hand carved gemstones from Arizona, Mexico, California and New Mexico. I purchased my first Fire Agate rough mined at Slaughter Mountain after seeing Ryszard Krukowski’s stones at the Tucson gem show in 2012. I absolutely had to free the fire from inside these wild looking crystals. I also started thinking a lot while at the Tucson gem show about the people who had mined all the minerals and whether or not they were given good treatment for their work. Purchasing rough directly from the miner himself, was a very important part of why I love Fire Agates so much.
In the spring of 2016 I had the privilege to mine at Deer Creek mine with owner Dave Penny and his amazing geminator machine. The pockets where Fire Agate grew have varying mineral compositions and color displays. As mines are worked new areas open up. In my carving so far, Slaughter Mountain material appears more red and orange colored with smaller bubbles, phantom shimmers, and really beautiful chalcedony displays. The Deer Creek I have has larger smooth color bubbles, some gorgeous rainbow colors including my favorite greens and purples.
